Tour 2008: Day 2- June 17, Nashville, TN

by Kay Johnson on June 4, 2009

Everyone arrived at the church today with stories of their wonderful host families. As usual, the accommodations varied with the kids being treated like kings and queens by the hosts.  One group stayed on a large farm that had been in their family since the 1700’s while another stayed in a luxury condo in downtown Knoxville.  The food with the host families varied as much as the housing. The “farmhouse” group expected fresh eggs from the hens on the farm for breakfast and others were treated to sushi and/or to ice cream after the concert. There were lots of wonderful experiences to include in our thank you notes.

The trip to Nashville went smoothly and we arrived at The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson, for our picnic lunch.  We learned a lot about our seventh President and his family.  The afternoon included a movie, the museum, tours by costumed interpreters of his mansion and a walking tour of the grounds, gardens, the cemetery, slave buildings and of course the gift shop.  The weather, while warm, has been perfect.  The humidity was low and there was a great breeze.  We really could not ask for better weather in Tennessee during June.

We arrived at Glendale Baptist Church, in the suburbs of Nashville, to prepare for our concert and once again found very welcoming hosts.  They prepared a great dinner of “make-your-own-tacos” and a fabulous choice of desserts.  Tonight’s concert included the touring choirs’ rendition of “Joseph,” so we surprised our audience with a costume change, handled with great success!  I believe the most popular portion of the “Joseph” medley was David Singleton’s rendition of Elvis, Elvis at Glendale! complete with sunglasses and swivel hips!

The soloists for “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” tonight were Sarah Moore and Max Singleton. They assisted in closing the concert quite beautifully and, the second night in a row, the choirs left the sanctuary to an enthusiastic standing ovation.

What a delight to hear about your many adventures. This is a great opportunity, not only for the choir members, but for everyone that gets to hear your wonderful voices sing! Come home safely. Blessings, Tricia
