Frequently Asked Questions:How do I learn more about The Choir School and if it’s right for my child? The Choir School at St. Peter’s hosts an annual recruitment/information night known as Choir Discovery Night in the spring. Call the choir office for the upcoming date and for audition times. Directions to St. Peter's Church and a map can be found below. Parking is free! At Choir Discovery Night experience and participate in a rehearsal with the boys and the girls. See what a rehearsal is really like! Parents watch and children join in with the current members of the choir. We encourage boys and girls ages 7-11, who enjoy music to attend. In addition to a wonderful choral experience, this program provides a solid foundation for future musical studies, vocal or instrumental. In addition to the rehearsal, information and audio-visual presentations about the groups' activities and tours are available. Ask questions of the staff, choristers, and parents in the program, and auditions can be scheduled. Come experience this program for yourself. For more information, call Kay Johnson at 704-749-6146 or e-mail Kay at kjohnson@st-peters.org. Rehearsal begin at the end of camp and continue throughout the year. The Town Choirs finish rehearsals at Spring Concert time while the touring choirs continue until tour. When is tour?Tour begins as soon after CMS graduations as possible. Visit our Tour page for more information on past tours. When is my child old enough for the choir?Children join the choir by audition and must be reading words well, have an age appropriate attention span and enjoy music and singing. This is determined on an individual basis, but the general guideline is to audition at the end of the second grade. Visit our Audition page for more information. What’s the difference between the town choir and touring choirs? The town choirs are typically younger children who are just beginning their musical education. They do not travel to other locations to perform. They are included in the 3 major concerts here at St. Peter’s. Click here for more information on the town choirs. Graduates from the town choirs and older children audition for the touring choirs. In addition to the major concerts, this group sometimes performs for other organizations in the Charlotte area, by request and also tour throughout the US, Canada or England after school is out in the summer. Visit our Tour page for more information about touring. What does it cost to be in the choir? The choir is funded by donations from individuals and businesses and we ask that all choir families make a tax-deductible donation to the choir, if possible. There are additional fees for camp, uniforms and touring. Scholarships are available for these fees. Can I hire the choir to perform for a private event? The choirs stay very busy with their regular rehearsals and performances, but we are willing to consider individual requests as fund raising opportunities and as service opportunities. Timing and desired repertoire influences the decision. Contact the choir school office with your request.
