Summer Tour is one of the most important components of the Choir School Program. On tour, choristers grow in so many ways – as musicians, as team members, and as independent, confident young people. Summer Tour 2018 will take us to Mt. Vernon, The Smithsonian, and King’s Dominion, and will give us the opportunity to perform and lead worship for hundreds of audience members and parishioners.
You can view the 2018 tour schedule here, and follow along each day on this page!
Day One: Charlotte to Richmond, VA
Day One of tour was a great beginning in a year that included many new beginnings! Along with a new director, a new accompanist, and new friends, tour is new places to visit, new churches, audiences and new host families to meet!
Enjoy the pictures of our day- from the time after the bus was loaded and we drove off to enjoy a week of new adventures. Lunchtime was a time to get to know others in our “group” better. Our group is our family for the week. Arriving at Maymont Estate after lunch, we stretched our legs, walked the grounds enjoying the extensive gardens, waterfalls and an exhibit of wildlife. We were surprised at the wildlife on the estate- Bald eagles, bears, cows, hawks, owls and more!
We arrived at our host church, All Saints Episcopal, set up for the concert, moving suitcases, garment bags, back packs and risers and went to work. All Saints was a gorgeous and large sanctuary, and a fun place to sing! We enjoyed singing for our new friends- a great audience.
Our final adventure of the day took us to new homes and a chance to meet new friends in a new town!
Day Two: Mt. Vernon, George Washington’s home and performance at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Falls Church, Virginia.
Day Three: A visit to The Smithsonian and a guided walking tour of D.C and the many memorials.
Day Four: Leading worship at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Burke, Virginia and Evensong at St. Paul’s K Street in Washington D.C.
Day Five: The Lincoln Memorial, a second visit to the Smithsonian and a guided tour of The National Cathedral, followed by a concert at Christ Church in Alexandria.
Day Six: King’s Dominion! Our choristers having fun riding rides from the smallest to the largest!
Day Seven: Home to Charlotte – A few photos of our final activity on tour. Our annual tour ceremony where we honor our choristers for their individual, notable tour achievements with their unique “Bennie Award”- a tradition that began on our first tour and is named for our founder!
